felon is an infection of the pulp space of the fingertip, usually with staphylococci and streptococci.
Most common site is the distal pulp, which may be involved centrally, laterally, or apically. The septa between pulp spaces ordinarily limit the spread of infection, resulting in an abscess, which creates pressure and necrosis of adjacent tissues. The underlying bone, joint, or flexor tendons may become infected. There is intense throbbing pain and a swollen, warm, extremely tender pulp.
Felon is an infection of finger-tip on the palmar side leading to formation of pus in an enclosed pocket. It is a very painful disease needing immediate attention.
SIGNS & SYMPTOMS:
i) Fingertip become very firm, swollen and red
ii) Feeling pain, tenderness and throbbing sensation
iii) Numbness of the affected finger and difficulty in movement
iv) Affected part felt warm
v) General feeling of unwell
Frequently used medicines are Aconitum nap.,Belladonna, Arsenicum alb., Anthracinum, Staphylococcinum, Hepar sulph., Mercurius sol., Silicea etc.
1) Diabetic patient should take extra care.
2) Persons who work with wood, iron etc. should take care so that fingers are not get punctured with pointed parts.
