Pilonidal Sinus

Infection of the skin and subcutaneous tissue at or near the upper part of the natal cleft of the buttocks.Pilonidal cyst also called pilonidal cyst disease,intergluteal pilonidaL disease or pilonidal sinus.

CAUSES OF PILONIDAL SINUS-

• Ingrown hairs leading to immune respose.
• Prolonged sitting.
• Tight Clothing.
• Obsesity.
• Stiff hair in area of friction.

SYMPTOMS-

• Small dimple or irritated mass in Buttock area.
• Redness of the skin.
• Drainage of pus or blood from an opening in the skin.
• Foul smell from draining pus.

PREVENTION OF PILONIDAL SIUS-

• Keep buttock area hair free.
• Avoid sitting for long period of time.
• Apply dressing once or twice daily.
• Avoid wearing tight fitting cloth.
