Thrombophilia is an inherited or acquired coagulopathy which predisposes to thrombosis usually venous.
The disease needs special precautions in surgery, pregnancy, and enforced rest.
Risk of the disease is increased by obesity, immobility, trauma and malignancy.
CAUSES: -
- Activated protein c (APC) resistance / factor v Leiden is the main cause which is usually associated with a single point mutation in factor 5.
- Antiphospholipid antibody syndrome.
- Disseminated intravascular coagulopathy.
- Other medical illnesses such as Hepatitis, H.I.V, and liver disease.
SYMPTOMS: -
- Throbbing or cramping pain in one leg rarely both, usually in the calf or thigh.
- Swelling in one leg.

- Red or darkened skin around the painful area.
