ULCERATIVE COLITIS AND ITS HOMOEOPATHIC MANAGEMENT

It is a relapsing and remitting inflammatory disorder of the colonic mucosa.

It may affect just the rectum or extend to involve part of colon, or the entire colon.

The disease condition never spreads proximal to the ileocaecal valve.

Cause: - Unknown, there is some genetic susceptibility.

Pathology: - Hyperaemic/Haemorrhagic granular colonic mucosa, pseudopolyps are formed by inflammation.

Punctate ulcers may extend deep into the lamina propria inflammation is normally not transmural.

SYMPTOMS OF THE DISEASE ARE: - Episodic or chronic diarrhoea, crampy abdominal discomfort, bowel frequency relates to severity, urgency/tenesmus.

-Systemic symptoms in attacks: fever, malaise, Anorexia, decreased weight.

TESTS Blood :- FBC, ESR, CRP, blood culture.

-Colonoscopy shows disease extent and allows biopsy.

COMPLICATIONS: - Toxic dilatation of colon, Venous thrombosis.

CONCLUSION:-

HOMOEOPATHY is extremely effective in treating Chronic Ulcerative Colitis. HOMOEOPATHY helps in addressing the underlying pathology of Ulcerative colitis
