ARTERIAL TORTUOSITY SYNDROME (ATS)
Also known as Arterial Tortuosity Disorder, is an extremely rare genetic disorder that affects the connective tissues of the body, leading to abnormal twisting, elongation, and narrowing (tortuosity) of the arteries.
CAUSED ARTERIAL TORTUOSITY SYNDROME (ATS):
- Genetic by mutations in the SLC2A10 gene, which plays a role in the production of glucose transporters that are essential for normal arterial function.
SIGN AND SYMPTOMS OF ARTERIAL TORTUOSITY SYNDROME INCLUDE:
- Arterial Abnormalities: The hallmark of ATS is the presence of tortuous (twisted) and elongated arteries throughout the body. These abnormalities can affect various arteries, including those of the heart, brain, and other organs.
- Connective Tissue Involvement: ATS is part of a group of disorders known as connective tissue disorders. Connective tissues provide structural support to various parts of the body, including blood vessels. Mutations in the SLC2A10 gene disrupt the normal development and maintenance of connective tissues, leading to the arterial abnormalities seen in ATS.
- Cardiovascular Complications: The tortuous and narrowed arteries in ATS can lead to a range of cardiovascular issues, including an increased risk of aneurysms, dissections (tearing of arterial walls), and reduced blood flow to various organs.
- Other Features: such as joint hypermobility (increased flexibility), skin abnormalities, and gastrointestinal problems.
DIAGNOSING ATS:
Can be challenging due to its rarity and the variability of its symptoms. Medical imaging, such as angiography, MRI, and CT scans, can help visualize the arterial abnormalities. Genetic testing can also identify mutations in the SLC2A10 gene.
FEW HOMEOPATHIC MEDICINE FOR ARTERIAL TORTUOSITY SYNDROME (ATS):
- Crataegus Oxyacantha (Hawthorn): This remedy is often used in homeopathy for cardiovascular conditions. It is believed to have a positive effect on the heart and circulatory system.
- Arnica Montana: Arnica is used for conditions involving blood vessels and bruising. It is sometimes recommended for circulatory issues and a sensation of fullness or soreness in the arteries.
- Cactus Grandiflorus: This remedy is derived from the night-blooming cereus cactus and is used for various heart-related symptoms, including palpitations and constrictive sensations in the chest.
- Aurum Metallicum: Aurum is sometimes considered for individuals with cardiovascular issues, particularly those related to emotional stress and depression.
- Lachesis: Lachesis is used for conditions involving circulatory and blood flow issues. It may be considered when there is a sensation of constriction or heat in the chest or arteries.
- Adonis Vernalis: This remedy is derived from the pheasant's eye plant and is sometimes suggested for heart-related symptoms, including irregular heartbeats.
