INFECTIOUS DIARRHEA
Diarrhea is an increased number or amount of bowel movements. This may be acute (more than 5days) or chronic.

- Perfringens
- Difficiles
- Campylobacter Jejuni
- Vibrio Cholera Toxin
- Viral (Norwalk, Rotavirus)
- Yersinia
- Entamochabacillus
EPIDEMIOLOGY
- Isolation of pathogens is possible in about half of case.
- Most common transmission is food-borne of fecal-oral.
- Associated with recent travel, eating out, uncooked food, seafood, poorly refrigerated food.
SIGN AND SYMPTOMS
- Increased frequency or quantity of bowel movements
- Dysentery
- Dehydration
- Low grade fever
- Flatulence with foul smelling stool
- Weight loss
- Anal excoriations
- Abdominal craps
DIAGNOSIS
- WBCs in stool indicates invasive/ bacteria diarrhea or inflammation of bowel.
- Stool culture and ova/parasite screens
- Test for C. difficile toxin in stool
TREATMENT
Primary is supportive treatment.
