BENIGN ESSENTIAL BLEPHAROSPASM

It is neurological disorder of eye muscle causing the spasm, twitching and contraction of eyes in the form of dystonia with unknown etiology some gene are said to be involve such;  DRD5 and TOR1A. Most cases of benign essential blepharospasm are sporadic, which means that the condition occurs in people with no history of this disorder or other forms of dystonia in their family.

SIGN AND SYMPTOMS

  • Excessive blinking and spasming of one or both eyes – characterized by uncontrollable eyelid closure of durations longer than the typical blink reflex. The spells of spasming may last for minutes or even hours
  • Uncontrollable contractions or twitches of the eye muscles and surrounding facial area. Some sufferers have twitching symptoms that radiate into the nose, face, cheeks, and sometimes, the neck area
  • Dryness of the eyes
  • Photophobia

DIAGNOSIS

The diagnosis Benign Essential Blepharospasm is purely on the clinical examination some neurological examination will help to diagnosis.

HOMOEOPATHIC MEDICINE FOR BEB

AGARICUS MUSCARIUS: Asthenopia from prolonged strain, spasm of accommodation. Twitching of lids and eyeballs. Margins of lids red; itch and burn and agglutinate. Inner angles very red.

RAPHANUS SATIVUS : Constant twitching of eye lids that almost prevent vision with rotary motion of the eye balls.

MEZEREUM: twitching of eye lids, muscles of right cheek and of pit of stomach. Annoying twitching.

MAGNESIA PHOSPHORICA: spasms and jerking about the eyes, or prolonged tonic spasms producing strabismus.

CROCUS SATIVA: twitching of eyelids especially in hysterical subject.
