BRONCHIECTASIS

It is a condition of permanent abnormal dilatation of large bronchi.

CAUSES

• Obstruction: in small bronchiole result in negative pressure build up therefrom, surrounding bronchiole dilated.
• Infection: result in formation of granulation tissue and weakness of bronchial wall.
• Immunodeficiency state: deficiency of alpha1 antiprotease.
• Congenital: Immotile cilia syndrome, kartagener’s syndrome, cystic fibrosis of lung and congenital hypogamma globulinaemia.

SIGN AND SYMPTOMS

• Cough with profuse expectoration especially in morning on wake up.
• Haemoptysis this varies in amount of slight blood tinged sputum of frank hemorrhage.
• Chest pain due to dry pleurisy or pneumonia
• Febrile episode are due to secondary infection.
• Chronic sinusitis
• Breathing difficulty
• Clubbing
• Weight loss

DIAGNOSIS

• Blood test show leucocytosis
• Sputum culture show hemophilic influenza and sometime E-coli.
• X-RAY: show birds nest appearance.
• Bronchoscopy: especially in children for finding foreign body
• Lung function test

FEW HOMOEOPATHIC MEDICINES FOR BRONCHIECTASIS

Antimonium Tart: Is a good medicine for bronchiectasis, the symptoms indicate Antimonium tart are Rapid, short, difficult breathing; seems as if he would suffocate; must sit up. Coughing and gaping consecutively. Bronchial tubes overloaded with mucus. Cough excited by eating, with pain in chest and larynx. 

KALIUM BICHROMICUM: the characteristic indication of kali bi Profuse, yellow expectoration, very glutinous and sticky, coming out in long, stringy, and very tenacious mass.  Cough, with pain in sternum, extending to shoulders; worse when undressing. Pain at bifurcation of trachea on coughing; from mid-sternum to back.

ARSENICUM ALBUM: for arsenicum album to be used are the symptoms should indicate. Suffocative catarrh. Cough worse after midnight; worse lying on back. Expectoration scanty, frothy. Darting pain through upper third of right lung. Wheezing respiration. Hemoptysis with pain between shoulders; burning heat all over. 

SUPHUR: a good medicine for brochiectasis to use with symptoms like loose cough; worse talking, morning, greenish, purulent, sweetish expectoration. Much rattling of mucus. Chest feels heavy; stitches, with heart feeling too large and palpitating pleuritic exudations.

PULSATILLA PRATENSIS: Dry cough in evening and at night; must sit up in bed to get relief; and loose cough in the morning, with copious mucous expectoration. Pressure upon the chest and soreness.
