COATED TONGUE

Accumulated food remnants intermingled with exfoliated cells and bacteria form a coating on the tongue dorsum. tongue can look like a thick, white coating on your tongue that stays put even after brushing; other times, it can form a thin lace-like pattern. The whiteness can cover your entire tongue, only the back of your tongue, or it can appear in patches, bumps, or specks.

Few conditions which makes the tongue whitish in appearance are as followed:

  • poor brushing and flossing
  • dry mouth
  • breathing through your mouth
  • dehydration
  • eating a lot of soft foods
  • fever
  • smoking or chewing tobacco
  • alcohol use

CONDITIONS:

  • Leukoplakia
  • Oral lichen planus
  • Oral thrush
  • Syphilis

HOMOEOPATHIC MANAGEMENT:

ANTIMONIUM TARTARICUM. - Coated pasty thick white with reddened papillae and red edges, dry in middle, on the tongue there is small pustules which are painful, thirst less tongue in most of complaints

ANTIMONIUM CRUDUM. -  thick milky white coating on tongue.

BAPTISIA TINCTORIA- first tongue is white with red papillae, dry and yellow brown in centre, later dry, cracked, ulcerated.

LAC CANINUM-  Tongue coated white with bright red edges.
