PORTAL CHOLANGIOPATHY TREATMENT in Nepal

PORTAL CHOLANGIOPATHY

Also known as portal biliopathy, is a rare condition characterized by abnormalities in the bile ducts that occur as a result of increased pressure in the portal vein, which carries blood from the digestive organs to the liver. It is often associated with portal hypertension, a condition where blood flow through the portal vein is obstructed or impeded, leading to increased pressure within the portal vein.

Portal cholangiopathy primarily affects the bile ducts within the liver, leading to various changes and complications, including:

CAUSES PORTAL CHOLANGIOPATHY

  • Cirrhosis
  • Portal Vein Thrombosis
  • Schistosomiasis
  • Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) and Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH
  • Alcoholic Liver Disease
  • Hepatic Veno-Occlusive Disease (VOD
  • Hepatic Artery Thrombosis
  • Budd-Chiari Syndrome
  • Portal Vein Aneurysm
  • Congenital Malformations

SIGN AND SYMPTOMS AND AFFECTION OF PORTAL CHOLANGIOPATHY:

  • Bile Duct Compression: The increased pressure in the portal vein can compress and narrow the bile ducts within the liver, leading to bile flow obstruction.
  • Biliary Strictures: Bile ducts may become narrowed or blocked due to compression or scarring, resulting in bile flow impairment and potential backup of bile in the liver.
  • Gallstones: Portal cholangiopathy can contribute to the formation of gallstones within the bile ducts.
  • Biliary Ischemia: Reduced blood supply to the bile ducts due to portal hypertension can lead to tissue damage and ischemia (lack of blood flow).
  • Biliary Dilatation: In response to the increased pressure, the bile ducts may dilate or widen, leading to irregularly shaped and dilated bile ducts.
  • Jaundice: Bile accumulation in the liver can result in jaundice, a yellowing of the skin and eyes due to elevated bilirubin levels.

DIAGNOSIS: typically involves imaging studies such as ultrasound, magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP), or endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP).

FEW HOMEOPATHIC  MEDICINE FOR PORTAL CHOLANGIOPATHY:

  1. Chelidonium majus (Chel.): Often used for liver and gallbladder issues, including jaundice, gallstones, and pain in the right upper abdomen. It is sometimes recommended for individuals with liver-related symptoms.
  2. Carduus marianus (Card-m.): Known as Milk Thistle, it is used in homeopathy for liver disorders, particularly when there is jaundice, gallstones, and liver congestion.
  3. Nux vomica: Suggested for individuals with liver congestion, indigestion, and irritability. It is sometimes used for people who have overindulged in rich or fatty foods.
  4. Lycopodium: May be considered for individuals with liver and digestive issues, along with bloating, gas, and constipation.
  5. China officinalis (China): Known as Cinchona, it is sometimes used for individuals with liver-related symptoms, weakness, and anemia.
  6. Mercurius solubilis (Merc.): Used for liver and digestive disorders, it may be considered when there are symptoms of inflammation, discomfort, and sensitivity to temperature.
  7. Bryonia alba (Bry.): Suggested for individuals with liver discomfort and stitching pains that are aggravated by motion.
