STARGARDT DISEASE

Also known as Stargardt macular dystrophy or juvenile macular degeneration, is an inherited eye disorder that primarily affects the macula, a small area near the center of the retina in the eye. CAUSES STARGARDT DISEASE :

Genetics: Stargardt disease is typically inherited in an autosomal recessive manner, meaning that two copies of the mutated gene, one from each parent, are necessary for the disease to manifest in an individual. Mutations in the ABCA4 gene are the most common genetic cause of Stargardt disease.
